Rocky Mountain Irish Roots Collective

In solidarity with exiles everywhere

About Us

Welcome to the Rocky Mountain Irish Roots Collective website. The Rocky Mountain Irish Roots Collective is a loose network of scholars, students, educators, activists, and other working class voices, who celebrate the long struggle waged by the Irish people for sovereignty and independence, and the history of solidarity expressed toward similar struggles around the world.  RMIRC organizes free events, both in person and virtual, that center stories of Irish culture and history in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.  Here you can find information about the Colorado Irish, links to other resources, and view research from local researchers.

Tens of thousands of Irish miners fleeing famine risked it all for a better life in the mining boom of 1880’s Leadville. Their labor was cheap, their lives short, and their bodies often buried in the pauper section of Evergreen Cemetery. Can digging up the past and celebrating the forgotten dead shed light on the immigrant stories of Colorado?
